Asthma Self Treatment Tips

By Esther Tan

Asthma is a respiratory condition developed due to the bodys overreaction to a certain allergen or irritant. It is a chronic condition, which means long-lasting. Sometimes, asthma can be outgrown. But theres always a chance of recurrence. At this time, there is no cure for asthma. What we have are treatments. These treatments come from extensive scientific research. There are also other alternative remedies that are getting more and more popular because they are readily available, inexpensive, and are pretty effective for asthma. Even so, it is always a good idea to keep a rescue inhaler close by just in case the alternative treatment doesnt work. Here are more tips for asthma.

Know what you eat: Try to eat foods that are rich in antioxidants as this helps reduce the amount of free radicals in your body; thereby reducing the amount of respiratory issues. Sources include, but are not limited to, cacao, citrus fruits, green tea, broccoli, and a lot more. Fatty acids such as shellfish, egg yolk, an other types of meat containing archidonic acid can cause inflammation for allergics and thus must be avoided.

Beware of food additives: Food additives including metabisulfite and MSG can trigger asthma. While MSG or monosodium glutamate is used on a lot of foodstuff nowadays, metabisulfite can be found in beer wine, shrimp, and dried fruits, particularly apricots.

Stay away from smoke: While this is an unwritten rule, it is often neglected. Asthmatics consider smoke as their number one enemy. Smog is even a prime suspect in the increasing prevalence of respiratory infections in children today. If you are an asthmatic, exposure to smoke will worsen your condition.

Listen to your body: The best way to fight asthma is to prevent it from surfacing. Learn to recognize the warning signs that you will soon have an asthma attack. Do not ignore them. When you feel discomfort, act right away so you can ward off the attack.

There are a number of products and techniques being developed for alternative and natural asthma treatment. Seek your doctors advice about the alternatives you may be interested in. Only they can tell you if they are beneficial or not. If they are, they may even provide further tips to maximize effectiveness. - 30286

Asthma Exacerbation: Why Inhalers Work Best

By Jamie Sue Tan

Asthma is the long-lasting respiratory condition where the lungs become inflamed, and the airways narrowed. The airway constriction causes shortness of breath, tightness in the chest, coughing, and wheezing. There is a misconception, though, that wheezing is always present during asthma attacks. That is false. Wheezing is present in mild to acute asthma, but absent in more severe cases due to the little amount of airflow.

Asthma has a steady state. In this steady state, the asthmatic can continue living a normal life. Occasional nighttime coughing may occur, but nothing that an inhaler cannot take care of. But asthma, when left unchecked, gets worse without being known. The asthmatic may feel perfectly fine without realizing that the airways are starting to constrict; inhaling airborne irritants speeds up the process of asthma exacerbation.

Asthma triggers include smoke, dust, pollen, strong odors, fumes, and molds. Most of these can be avoided. But there is always a time where exposure to these triggers is unavoidable. This brings about an asthma attack. Symptoms of an asthma attack are more severe than those in its steady state. Wheezing is most likely to be present in this state as well as in other more severe states.

The exacerbation of asthma is where the narrowing of airways occurs. Asthma attacks happen anywhere. To relieve the asthma episodes, inhalers are frequently used. These inhalers contain and deliver fast-acting bronchodilators. Bronchodilators are substances which relax the airways; widening them as the words bronchi and dilate imply. This brings breathing back to normal for the asthmatic.

Fast-acting bronchodilators are often delivered as aerosol, powder, or mist. They are more popular in those forms than pills. This is because inhaling the medication allows it to target the lungs directly. Even hospitals use bronchodilator-based nebulizers to ease the symptoms of severe asthma attacks. For this reason, inhalers are often referred to as the asthmatics best friend. - 30286

Using A Nebulizer As An Asthma Attack Treatment

By Eddy Kong

An asthma attack is perhaps the most unwelcome event for an asthma patient. Besides the very uncomfortable feeling caused by breathing difficulties, a slight fear scratches the back of the asthmatic's head of the asthma attack's severity. Asthma attacks have a high risk for death if it reaches the asthmaticus stage and no immediate help is around.

Quick-relief medication is the best weapon against asthma attacks. There are various drugs and devices out there for providing quick-relief medication. Medicines can also be administered in a variety of ways. Some drugs are orally taken while others need to be injected. The most popular method, however, is that which require additional equipment. These are through the use of inhalers and nebulizers. Nebulizers are also inhalers by nature. It's just a little bigger and more sophisticated than the hand-held one.

The nebulizer is seen as a continuous support for quick-relief of asthma attacks. It can also be used by people of all ages regardless of asthma severity. It is even used for asthmaticus. The nebulizer, also called a breathing machine, turns liquid medications into mist so it can easily be inhaled. It is dubbed as a continuous support because it provides continuous stream of medication. Even after being given oral or IV drugs, nebulizer is still being used.

Nebulizers are either recommended as replacement, or at least substitute, for inhalers in children. This is because children may have problems synchronizing their breathing with aerosol inhalers. Children are also not advised to use powder based inhalers due to a possibility of provoking a cough and worsening the asthma attack.

Certain procedures are to be followed in operating a nebulizer. Instructions indicated in the manual or printed on the nebulizer itself should be followed. This includes cleaning and replacing or disposing of some parts. Proper positioning of the body during inhalation should also be taken into consideration. All of this ensures effectiveness of the nebulizer. - 30286

What Is Allergic Asthma

By Eddy Kong

Asthma is a chronic condition whose main symptom is shortness of breath. This symptom can be caused by several factors including, but not limited to, the airways becoming narrowed or inflamed and the accumulation of mucus in the lungs. Asthma usually runs through the genes but it may also be developed, especially if the person is exposed for an extended period of time in environments that may cause respiratory infections.

While asthma is a condition, the event when the airways become narrowed is known as an asthma attack, episode, or flare up. Most asthma attacks are due to unintentional inhaling of airborne irritants. When these particles reach the lungs or even just the airways, the reaction causes the asthmatic to experience shortness of breath. At times, a whistling sound known as wheezing is heard.

Asthma symptoms are also present in the long list of allergic reactions. A non-asthmatic may experience an asthma attack upon accidental inhaling of an allergen. Allergic reactions typically involve swelling; most often in the face. Severe allergic reactions may cause internal swelling that reach the larynx. If this happens, breathing is impaired. Allergic reactions may also cause mucus release in the lungs. All of these symptoms are collectively called allergic asthma.

Molds, pollen, pets, and dust mites are well known asthma triggers. These same substances are the most-common of all inhaled allergens. With allergy, trigger avoidance is a must. Since asthma has other triggers, allergen avoidance is not enough for asthmatics. Asthma-exclusive triggers include smoke, fumes, and strong odors.

Medications for allergic asthma generally include fast-acting bronchodilators coupled with anti-inflammatory medicines. Epinephrine is mainly used to treat allergic reactions but is also used for severe asthma attacks. Unlike food allergy, true allergy, which causes allergic asthma, can be dealt with immunotherapy. This option, however, needs to be discussed with ones allergist. - 30286

Mesothelioma Cancer Can Be Cured If Detected Early

By Joe Harrell

The lining or membranes of certain large cavities of our body is affected by a serious form of cancer known as mesothelioma cancer. These cavities are also known as the serous cavities and the vital organs like abdomen, heart, lungs etc are contained in them. The membranes which surround these cavities are called serous membranes. The main function of the serous membranes is to protect the vital organs from damages caused by abrasion and friction, while they move against each other during routine functioning. Mesothelial cells are the special cells which create the mesothelium, the major tissue layer of the serous membranes. The mesothelium tissue gets affected by mesothelioma.

There are mainly three forms of mesothelioma. The peritoneal mesothelioma affects the peritoneum or membrane which surrounds the abdomen. Sometimes it is found that the cancer affects male testicles, as the lining around the scrotum is an extension of peritoneum. The second form called pericardial mesothelioma attacks the pericardium, which is the lining surrounding the heart. The third and most common malignant cancer known as pleural mesothelioma affects the lining of the lung cavity.

Starting as a localized tumor, mesothelioma cancer spreads very rapidly to the nearby organs and tissues. The non-cancerous growths and the fibrous cysts that appear in the serous membranes were initially considered to be fibrous mesothelioma which is not malignant. These conditions actually do not get initiated in mesothelial cells, but other cells within the serous membranes and they do not spread fast as they are localized.

There is proof that mesothelioma is caused by previous exposure to asbestos. It is a rare, serious, deadly disease and it is during the advanced stages that the cancer is detected. Hence a complete cure is normally out of question and the average survival time after the diagnosis is one to two years. The type of mesothelioma is also a determining factor of the survival time.

Traditional as well as modern treatment procedures are there for treating mesothelioma cancer. The main traditional procedures include surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. According to the requirement of the situation, doctors sometimes adopt a combination of these methods. But once the cancer spreads beyond control, palliative treatment, that is, treating the symptoms is the only treatment option left. - 30286

Information About Mesothelioma Lung Cancer

By Kor Rassad

There are a lot of different forms of lung cancer around. Mesothelioma lung cancer is one that a lot of people are not very well informed about. It is a form of cancer that afflicts the area of the body that surround and protect the internal organs of the body. Here we will look at it a bit more.

This is a rather rare form of cancer but with this being said the number of cases that are being seen has increased in recent years. Most of the time men are the victims that are afflicted by it, but this does not mean that women are immune as they can get it as well.

Other health concerns can also be associated with people that have been in contact with asbestos over the years. The more that a person has been exposed to this hazard the more chance that they will become ill to an illness that is related to this exposure that they have had.

Many times the symptoms that come with this disease can take a very long time to show themselves in people that become ill with this disease. When they finally do become apparent there is no denying that there is a problem that needs to be looked into. Being short of breath and having chest pain are often common complaints that are heard from people that have experienced this disease firsthand. Other signs can be a weight loss and pain in the abdominal area of the body. Many other signs can also come along so becoming informed as to what these are is a very important thing that needs to be addressed.

This disease shows symptoms that are very close to those of other health conditions which can make things hard for a doctor when it comes to making a diagnosis. A doctor will ask you for a full medical history including any exposure to things such as asbestos. Also they can require that a battery of tests be done so that they can make a positive diagnosis of the condition by being able to view the areas that are in question completely. They may also need to perform a biopsy. This is the best way to make a 100 per cent accurate diagnosis.

Determining at what stage that the disease is in is the next step the next thing that the doctor will look at. This enables them to decide on the best course of action to be taken when it comes to treating the disease. If it is caught early on and is considered to be localized then it is far easier for the doctor to treat then if it has advance to other areas of the body.

By maintaining a regular schedule of visits to your doctor is essential when it comes to looking after your health. This can help your doctor know of any new things that may be developing with regards to your health. Another thing that a person can do is to stay aware of the developments that are coming along when it comes to this disease. Remember that there are new things that are coming out all the time and that the advancements that are being made are very promising. - 30286

Mesothelioma Lawsuit Can Help You Get Adequate Compensation From Those Responsible

By Joe Harrell

Mesothelioma lawsuit comes as a great relief for patients assailed by the mental, social and financial problems associated with the deadly disease. Anybody who has developed mesothelioma through exposure to asbestos is eligible to file the lawsuit. Even if the patient had succumbed to the disease, the law suit can be filed by a family member or the executor of the deceased's estate. Sometimes it happens that the family members also contract the disease owing to close contact with the person who was exposed to asbestos. In such cases, the family members can also file the lawsuit for compensation.

You can get the help of a mesothelioma lawyer to file the lawsuit. The process can be lengthy like in other cases. But an efficient lawyer can get your case sorted fast. For presenting the case skillfully, the lawyer has to do adequate research. There is a set time limit for filing the case and it may vary from state to state. Still, one to two years from diagnosis is the time limit generally seen. It should be remembered to file the lawsuit within the stipulated time. Otherwise you may not be eligible to claim. The limitations are applicable even if you are claiming on behalf of the deceased.

You should know when and where you had been exposed to asbestos, for filing mesothelioma lawsuit. In case you do not remember the details, a private investigator can be hired through your lawyer to collect the information.

Filing the case does not bring monetary headaches since most of the mesothelioma lawyers work on a no-win no-fee basis. Once you get the compensation, the lawyer is entitled to take a percentage of the amount as his fee. Nobody can predict how much you should get as compensation. But one thing is for sure, with the help of an expert lawyer, you will get a hefty amount adequate enough to cover the medical bills and settle other important issues.

There are no rules which state that you have to file the mesothelioma lawsuit in the State where you live. Expert lawyers would prefer the States where the chances of success and the rate of compensation are high. Out of court settlements are also possible in such cases. - 30286

Stomach Cancer! Can Alternative Medicines Really Work Against Stomach Cancer?

By Grahaam A. E. Maartin

Stomach Cancer! Do herbal products like Graviola and Graviola Max actually work? That is the issue I am going to look at. But the initial results seem to say an emphatic yes!

Are you frightened by the thought of getting Stomach Cancer? Do the words "Stomach Cancer" worry you? The words are very emotive aren't they? Well now it appears that there is some very good 'natural' help available to you Graviola and Graviola Max!

Usually, the large majority of doctors and medical practitioners although to be fair, not all, do not support the use of natural products like Graviola and Graviola Max in treating "Stomach Cancer". Often calling them "fringe or quack" remedies, simply because the medical institutions don't teach the students about them.

The fact that many of these herbal remedies may really be quite beneficial to you is now supported by growing evidence. Graviola Max and Graviola are two in particular that are showing promising results in patients with Stomach Cancer, sometimes in case where traditional chemo doesn't work. Would you use it?

In 2001 The Health Sciences Institute (HSI) featured an article, headlined "Billion-dollar Drug Company nearly squashes astounding research on natural cancer killer". It says. "Cancer conquered with miracle tree from the Amazon found to be 10,000 times stronger than chemotherapy". Can you believe that! 10.000 times stronger and yet some greedy pharmaceutical company tried to squash it because they couldn't patent a plant that just might stop Stomach Cancer! Disgusting! That tree was Graviola! . So what exactly is Graviola?

This tree Graviola is indigenous to the Amazon and various regions of South America. It's not a big rainforest tree by any means, the fact is it' relatively small in Rainforest terms growing to only 5 or 6 metres tall. But the "Stomach Cancer" fighting properties it has are amazing; in fact it's an absolute monster.

Lots of research has already been completed. It's been found that a lot of the phytochemicals or annonaceous acetogenins (the chemical compounds that occur naturally in plants) found in the stem, leaves, and seeds of the Graviola tree are cytotoxic against many cancer cells and tumours. These plant parts are all used in herbal medicine.

This is the really good news because, quote:- (Cytotoxic: Toxic to cells, cell-toxic, cell-killing. Any agent or process that kills cells. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy are forms of cytotoxic therapy.) According to the HSI article the 'Graviola' tree has been studied in more than 20 laboratory tests since the 1970s, where it's been shown to: Effectively target and kill malignant cells in 12 different types of cancer, including colon, Bowel, prostate, lung, and Stomach Cancer. Be 10,000 times stronger in killing Stomach Cancercells than Adriamycin, a commonly used chemotherapeutic drug. Selectively hunt down and kill cancer cells without harming healthy cells, unlike chemotherapy.

Also a plant screening program back in 1976 by the National Cancer Institute also showed that Graviola showed active cytotoxicity against cancer cells and various researchers have been following up on this research ever since and have found that Graviola was a cancer killing dynamo. Herbal products have been used worldwide almost since the time when man first walked on the earth, (well for thousands of years at least.) If you or your loved ones suffer from this terrible ailment, then I would strongly recommend that you read the HSI article on Graviola and Graviola Max here. It's a real eye opener!

Other Herbal products that could also be used help assist the above are "Immune Support" to boost the immune system. Both have shown to be off great help!

Well can Graviola and Graviola Max help you in your fight against Stomach Cancer? It seems that the answer is possibly, yes it can!

An Overview Of Asbestos Cancer Mesothelioma

By Joe Harrell

Asbestos cancer mesothelioma is caused by over-exposure to asbestos. Once considered as a miracle material, it was popular due to its characteristics like light weight, resistance to heat etc. It is a naturally occurring product, which was widely used in various commercial and consumer products. Producing construction materials like cement, insulation and roofing shingles to consumer and industrial applications such as automobile brake pads, hair dryers and pipe insulation make use of asbestos on a large scale.

Most of the victims have contracted the disease while working in companies where asbestos is used as a raw material. There they breathe asbestos particles unknowingly, though the exposure can take place at houses too. It is really surprising to know that in some mesothelioma cases, the victims have been working with asbestos for less than two months. Normally, many years would have elapsed when the detection takes place making the treatment procedure an uphill task.

Asbestos cancer mesothelioma has major symptoms like shortness of breath caused by expanding pleural effusion and persistent dry cough. Other symptoms include night sweats, fatigue without reason, fever, pain under the rib cage, swelling or lumps in the abdomen, weight loss etc. These symptoms can be common for all three types of mesothelioma - peritoneal, pleural and pericardial - confusing the doctors in proper diagnosis.

Each victim has an individualized treatment plan after considering the type and stage of the cancer along with the patient's general health. Surgery, chemotherapy and radiation are the popular traditional treatments, though the doctors may also use a combination of these. Researchers are in the process of inventing new treatment options which are highly effective. The past few years have seen great advances in tackling mesothelioma including exact staging, improvements in surgical methods, post-operative care, radiotherapy and chemotherapy techniques etc.

There are many websites providing adequate information to the victims of asbestos cancer mesothelioma and their relatives. Information regarding treatment options, coping up techniques etc is revealed in these popular websites. Also, referrals to other people suffering from the cancer and support groups are provided. Thus, the victims and their near and dear ones are better prepared to deal with the malicious disease. - 30286

By Esther Tan

There are so many benefits that herbs can offer in your life. Not only in the treatment of asthma but also for achieving total well being. But in recent years herbal medicines have been under fire from health departments due to some of the side effects that have been experienced as a result of misuse or improper diagnosis and concoction. Even before the advent of more advanced medication herbal medicine has already been used by our ancestors to treat various illnesses and for promoting and maintaining well being.

The sad fact is that more people are losing trust in the effectiveness of herbs in terms of treatment just because of the mistakes and greed of scrupulous companies. There are actually a lot of benefits that you can get from herbs. For one, the right herb can address your ailment as well as the other underlying conditions that can possibly worsen it. In terms of asthma, it means longer relief and greater control while taking care of other triggers and factors that may set in. Herbs, when used in accordance with expert advice, can bring recovery at a faster rate. They are also cheaper, and require little preparation. Cayenne: Cayenne is a spice that you can find in your own kitchen. It is considered as one of the most prized herbs in the herb kingdom. What Causes Asthma and What Can You Do About It?

By Kim Archer

If you have been suffering from asthma for quite some time, or if the symptoms of asthma have been more noticeable in your body, it may be time to seek various forms of asthma remedies. Whether you suffer asthma attacks frequently, or if you have allergic asthma that is triggered by certain environmental factors, the condition is one that can affect your overall health if not treated promptly and properly.

In order to find out what exactly is contributing to asthma attacks, you should visit your doctor to get a skin prick test. During this procedure, you will be pricked on the back with a number of common allergens, as well as food and cosmetic substances that may cause a reaction. The specimens will be left on your back for a few days, so that you can see which substances give you a reaction. This way, you will have more information when it comes to preventing asthma attacks; for instance, you may know that you allergic to plants, but a skin prick test may reveal that you are especially allergic to dandelions and lilies.

When you are first diagnosed with asthma, your doctor will most likely place you on medication that will reduce the swelling of your airways and make breathing easier. These medications are usually referred to as corticosteroids, and are given to you in the doctor's office before you begin taking a daily prescription for the symptoms of asthma. The medicine is either taken orally, as an inhaler, or injected into the blood stream in the form of a shot, and doctors will monitor your asthma control during your stay in the office before prescribing you the best daily asthma treatment. If your symptoms get worse, or you need immediate attention, you may have to visit an asthma clinic once a week or so for another injection of the medication in order to ward off asthma attacks.

It is important to realize that people of every age group can suffer from asthma. Asthma in infants is somewhat common, and the condition should be treated and monitored as soon as possible in order to prevent further damage to the lungs as the child grows. Some people also experience asthma symptoms during the adolescent years, when tolerances to certain food substances and plant combinations change in the body.

For long term treatment of asthma, be sure to visit your doctor to find out in detail how your condition should be remedied, since everyone's asthma condition will be slightly different. There are two major forms of medication for asthma; quick relief medicines, such as the Epi-Pen, offer immediate relief during an allergic reaction or asthma attack, and longer term control medicines such as Singulair work to open the airways on a daily basis in order to prevent asthma attacks. If you are unsure which type of asthma you have, and think you may need to have more tests done to determine if you have asthma, be sure to visit your doctor as soon as possible in order to receive the treatment you need. - 30286

Effective Asthma Herbal Remedies

By Jonathan Park

The increasing number of herbal remedies is both good and bad news to the consuming public. The good news is, there are more choices for individuals, and the prices will go down because of the competition. The bad news is, the large number of new products makes it difficult to tell which ones are effective and which one are to be avoided. The slightest miscalculation of the formula in herbal medicines and the confusion with the name (since Chinese give similar sounding names to different products) can result in a poisoned asthmatic.

While there is no doubt about the ability of herbs to help promote physical wellbeing and strengthen immunity, more and more cases of hospitalization due to side effects from certain herbal products have somewhat scarred its image. But it would be unfair to generalize as some herbal products can really help you achieve the long term relief and greater control that you yearn for. Here are a few examples of those safe, effective, and proven asthma herbal remedies:

Cayenne pepper: Cayenne pepper is more known as a cooking ingredient to chefs and a condiment to eaters. It is actually one of the oldest members of the herb kingdom. Cayenne contains capsaicin which helps break down mucus in the lungs and prevents inflammation. If you have to make just a single choice with alternative treatments for asthma, you can't go wrong with cayenne.

Ginger: Ginger is another seemingly quiet cooking ingredient, but it is actually one of the most common and widely used herbal remedy in the world. For a long time, ginger has been used by the people in India and in the most parts of Asia in treating different kinds of illnesses, including asthma. Research has also come to the conclusion that ginger has medicinal qualities. The active chemicals found in ginger can act as an expectorant and a bronchodilator during attacks. This makes bringing relief much quicker when paired up with your inhaler.

Chamomile: Chamomile extracts called terpenoids have anti-inflammatory properties and can help you prevent other respiratory problems because of the large amounts of antioxidants it contains. If the name sounds familiar but you can't really put your finger on it, chamomile is popular in tea form. Taken daily, it helps boost your immune system, and it's also delicious.

If you have noticed, not all of the herbal alternatives out there are dangerous. Most of them are quite common and you may be surprised to find more just sitting in your own kitchen. Do more research of your own and you can find the herbal treatments that will do wonders for you. - 30286

Effective Asthma Home Remedies

By Esther Tan

There are plenty of home remedies that you can actually choose from which could help you achieve relief of your condition during flare ups and attacks. Home remedies of course, should not be treated as your primary treatment during attacks but should only be considered during emergencies where access to rescue/relief medication is not immediately available. Because of the number of home remedies that are available, you would probably find yourself at a loss as to what can really be effective for your condition because you wouldn't want to end up experimenting which ones work while you're already flaring up or having an attack.

What you need is the type of home remedy that has been proven and tested to work by asthmatics all around the world. If you're looking for these types of remedies there are only actually quite a handful. Here are some examples of the most effective home remedies that you can help during those critical times:

Coffee: Dark, steamy and preferably strong. Coffee has even been advised by doctors for asthmatics during times of emergencies. The main component in coffee; theophylline and theobromine works to stop bronchial spasms and break down mucus and open up airways, bringing about relief within just a couple of minutes after ingestion. Taking two cups of brewed coffee (if possible) during emergencies can help bring your condition under control.

Honey: Preferably local, non tampered, non-imported honey. Research has found that inhaling the aroma that rises from pure honey can help relieve asthmatics by breaking down the mucus which blocks the airways and reduce inflammation caused by flare-ups and attacks, making it easier to breathe. Aside from quick relief honey can also be used in conjunction with your conventional medication for prevention. Mixing two teaspoonfuls of honey in a glassful of milk taken every night have been known to prevent onset of allergic reactions and development of mucus which can trigger attacks.

Steam: The easiest to produce and the most readily available home remedy you have is steam. If you happen to be in the worst scenario, with no medications, no coffee, and no honey, then you can settle for steam treatment; unless you have no water supply. Run the shower at its highest heat setting and allow the steam to linger in the bathroom. Inhale the steam that rises to get temporary relief until medical help arrives. Alternately, you can boil some water and put it in a bowl, pan, dish, or any other open container and inhale the steam that rises. Hot steam helps break down the mucus and relieve the airways to allow better airflow.

Remember that home remedies should only be considered during times of crisis and not on a daily basis. While the importance of your rescue medication cannot be emphasized enough, you still need to consider all the possibilities, and in this case, it would be better to have something than nothing at all. - 30286

About Asthma

By Alex West

Admittedly, asthma is a difficult disease to identify early. It resembles so many other respiratory infections that it becomes difficult to tell them apart. That is why you should not be trying it on your own; bring your doctor into the picture.

With the number of people that suffer from asthma in the United States, one would wonder if there was any reason for anybody to be able to live without it. It's like a losing battle; one rife with despair. I wish only more grease to the elbows of researchers seeking to end it.

It is important to have your lung capacity tested from time to time. This is one of the critical means by which they could diagnose you for asthma, or not. You don't want to pass up on the chance.

Asthma attacks don't come all the time, but when they do, you get to wishing you were dead because of how badly they make you feel. In any case, if you don't get the kind of attention you need as soon as possible, dead is exactly what you will be. I'm telling you, asthma is not a disease that takes prisoners.

Seeing as you are not the asthma pro, you might want to take a chill pill on your suggestions and suppositions. It is tough enough doing their job; you don't want to make things harder for your specialist than they totally need to be.

If you know nothing of asthma, how in the world would you handle things when push comes to shove? You might not think you could have it, but what do you really know. I strongly suggest that you don't take any chances with the disease.

Asthma is a respiratory condition, like a lot of other respiratory conditions. It is different mainly in that it has a host of symptoms that combine almost everything on the respiratory infections spectrum, and on the long run it can actually kill you. You don't want to mess with asthma, my friend. Instead, you want to do as you are directed by the specialist.

Whatever treatment you have been given for your asthma, be sure to include some exercise every day. You may want to start up with something easy that will not stress your lungs too hard, but work on gradually increasing it. It has been known to help a great deal with breathing when you are in crisis situations.

As an asthma patient, there's a lot that will be placed on your plate for you to deal with. Don't panic and shy away from these responsibilities; they are your responsibility to yourself. I suggest you take them on head on, and see where life takes you from there.

A lot of people have been diagnosed with asthma who still went on to live very fulfilling lives. Yours could be a story just like that, if only you had what it takes to look forward with more confidence. Sincerely, you life doesn't end quite yet. - 30286

Is Asbestos Mesothelioma Curable?

By Joe Harrell

The main factor responsible for contracting mesothelioma is working with asbestos. About 70 to 80 percent of all mesothelioma cases have a history of asbestos exposure behind them. In spite of this, there have been a few cases of this malicious cancer, where asbestos exposure was not involved. Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral as masses of flexible fibers which can be separated into fine threads and woven. There are many industrial products which make use of asbestos like, cement, brake linings, flooring products, roof shingles, textiles and insulation. Thus asbestos mesothelioma becomes a serious health hazard to many workers.

During the manufacturing process, the tiny asbestos particles get scattered in the air. Unwittingly, the workers inhale or swallow these particles giving rise so severe health problems. It is found that asbestos exposure and smoking enhance the risk of contracting cancer of the air passageways in the lung. Many American workers have become hapless victims of the material since the early'40s. They include shipyard workers, people who are working in asbestos mines and mills, construction industries etc.

With heavier and longer espouser to asbestos, the risk of asbestos related disease increases. At this point it should also be remembered that while many who have had maximum exposure to asbestos were spared, there are a few unfortunate ones who contracted asbestos mesothelioma though they were exposed to the minimum. Since the late'00s, asbestos has been mined and put to commercial use. The risks were unknown to the common public in the initial days. After establishing the connection between the cancer and asbestos, many laws have come into existence for the betterment of the workers. One such measure is setting limits for acceptable levels of asbestos exposure in workplace.

The cancer is so malicious that it does not even spare the family members. Asbestos particles stick to the hair and clothing of workers thereby exposing the relatives also to them. In order to avoid this, rules have been formulated for the workers to have a bath and change of cloth before heading home.

It has been noted that detection of asbestos mesothelioma is a difficult process owing to the fact that the symptoms appear very late. The similarity of the symptoms with those of other diseases also makes the correct diagnosis almost impossible. Medical technology has advanced greatly giving new hope to the victims and their relatives. But a complete cure still remains a distant dream. - 30286

Lung Cancer! Can It be Beaten Using Traditional Herbal Remedies?

By Grahaam A. E. Maartin

Lung Cancer! Do herbal products like Graviola and N-Tense actually work? That is the issue I am going to look at. But the initial results seem to say an emphatic yes!

Are you frightened by the thought of getting Lung cancer? Does the words "lung cancer" worry you? The words are very emotive aren't they? Well now it appears that there is some very good 'natural' help available to you Graviola and N-Tense!

As a rule, the large majority of medical practitioners and doctors do not support the use of treating 'Lung Cancer' with 'Herbal Treatments' like Graviola and N-Tense. In many cases describing them as 'quack' or 'fringe' medicines, mainly because they were not taught it at 'Medical School'!

Evidence is growing however, in support of the fact that many of these botanicals may be really quite beneficial. Two of these herbal remedies in particularly, 'Graviola' and 'N-Tense are showing some quite remarkable results in "Lung Cancer" patients. Often in cases where chemotherapy and traditional treatment didn't work. Would you use it?

The Health Sciences Institute (HSI) featured an article, In 2001, headlined "Billion-dollar Drug Company nearly squashes astounding research on natural cancer killer". It goes on to say Cancer conquered with miracle tree from the Amazon found to be 10,000 times stronger than chemotherapy". Can you believe that! 10.000 times stronger and yet some unethical pharmaceutical company tried to squash it because they couldn't patent a plant that just might stop Lung Cancer! That tree was Graviola! . So what exactly is Graviola?

Graviola is an indigenous to South America and some parts of the Amazon Rainforests It's not exactly big either growing only 5 to 6 metres high. But in regards to having "Lung Cancer" attacking properties, it's massive! Anyone interested in beating "Lung Cancer" should know more about this life saver.

Much of the research already completed has found that plenty of the annonaceous acetogenins or phytochemicals (chemical compounds that occur naturally in plants) found in the seeds, stem and leaves of Graviola tree are cytotoxic against various cancer cells and tumour cells. In herbal medicine, all these plant parts are used.

That is the very good because, quote:- (Cytotoxic: Toxic to cells, cell-toxic, cell-killing. Any agent or process that kills cells. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy are forms of cytotoxic therapy.) The HSI article says the tree has been studied in over 20 laboratory tests since the 1970s, and it has shown to: Effectively target and kill malignant cells in 12 different types of cancer, including pancreatic, lung, colon, prostate and breast cancer. Be 10,000 times stronger in killing colon cancer cells than Adriamycin, a commonly used chemotherapeutic drug. Selectively hunt down and kill cancer cells without harming healthy cells, unlike chemotherapy.

A plant screening program back in 1976 by the National Cancer Institute also demonstrated that Graviola showed active cytotoxicity against cancer cells. Many researchers who have been following up on this research have also found that Graviola was a cancer killing turbine. The use of herbal products worldwide has been there almost since the time when man first walked on the earth, well for a few thousands of years at least. So, If you or your loved ones suffer from cancer, then I would recommend that you read the Graviola and N-Tense article by the HSI in full here. It's mind blowing!

It has been shown that taking additional herbal products in addition to the above, such as "Lung Support to help the lungs and also Immune Support" to boost the immune system could be of help!

N-Tense and Graviola, could they help you in the fight against Lung Cancer? The answer it appears is yes, it can!

Top 3 Asthma Symptoms That Shouldn't Be Ignored

By Eddy Kong

Can you recognize most of the asthma symptoms that you have? Some symptoms are easily detected and are easy to treat early on, but there are others that may seem unrelated to your condition. If you've experienced a situation where you were okay one minute and gasping for air the next, then it's likely that there was a symptom that appeared prior to the attack that you failed to recognize.

There are a wide variety of symptoms that can show up before an asthma attack. There are attacks that may occur without showing pre-exacerbation symptoms, but the chances are pretty low; a mere 10-15%. That figure alone gives plenty of room for asthma attacks to show early signs before it actually happens. To be able to effectively manage asthma, you need to learn how to recognize the stealthy symptoms. You already probably know the other common symptoms such as wheezing, coughing, and shortness of breath. Here are three symptoms that you may not realize are early signs for an asthma attack:

Pale and sweaty face: This is an asthma symptom, believe it or not. You may wonder how it is connected to asthma. Well, when you accidentally inhale an asthma trigger, your airways constrict. The closing of your airways puts a gradual strain on your body and it shows when you start turning pale. This is often accompanied by the breakout of cold sweat.

Feeling anxious or panicky: The milder version of the one mentioned above, this is caused by the same gradual constriction of the bronchial tubes starving your body of that much needed oxygen without you noticing it (at first). This feeling is brought about because you know that something is amiss but you can't seem to put your finger on the culprit. Same as with the symptom above, when not given proper attention, this symptom can make itself more known later on in the form of asthma attacks.

Fatigue: Fatigue is considered dangerous because of the fact that it manifests way before the actual asthma attack. Experiencing constant fatigue for no apparent reason or even with plenty of rest, it is most likely due to your asthma. When the asthma attack occurs after this symptom was ignored, the level of severity is often high. If you are experiencing fatigue for a few days already, check with your doctor so it can be diagnosed and treated.

A lot of people have seemed to outgrow their asthma. The reality is they have only been able to manage their controllable condition. For you to be able to do the same, you need to know a lot about your asthma so you can take appropriate action if you need to. Learn everything you can about your condition. This includes all the symptoms, as well as the hidden ones, so you won't get caught off guard in the future. - 30286

4 Asthma Symptoms That You Should Be Aware When Exercising

By Jonathan Park

Asthma is a condition that must be dealt with care. It is very unpredictable, with attacks quickly manifesting without warning. Asthmatics are often frustrated since they are often deprived of the enjoyment and benefits that certain physical activities bring. Exercising is one such example. We all know that exercise is very important to every man and woman, asthmatic and non-asthmatic.

For asthmatics the need to exercise is greatly emphasized as it can promote general well being as well as strengthen immunity to the allergens that one might encounter. The problem is that even with the possible benefits that asthmatics can get from exercise it can also cause flare-ups and attacks. Exercise induced asthma is one of the reasons why a lot of asthmatics avoid physical activities which would otherwise be beneficial for them.

There is a way, however, that you can still do your workout without having to worry about your condition. This is possible through early precaution plus the knowledge of various symptoms that you may run into. When you know the symptoms, you can take the necessary actions, thus allowing you to continue with your regimen by preventing asthma attacks. Here are some of the exercise induced asthma symptoms that you should be aware of:

Sharp pain in the chest: This is probably the most frequent of all the exercise induced asthma symptoms. This symptom is usually followed by a numbing feeling to other parts of the body. If you experience this during exercise, stop and take your medication. Postponing or scheduling your workout every two days may be a good idea.

Lightheadedness: This tells you that your body cannot keep up with the activities that you are currently doing. Tone down your regimen a little or pause for a few minute breaks in between to rest. To be on the safe side, keep your medications close, and take them if you see fit.

Persistent coughing: Coughing during workout can only mean one thing for asthmatics - lack of air due to the gradual constriction of the airways. This is caused when foreign substances get in contact with the lungs, or too much exertion of force that your body can't keep up with. Remember to pace yourself and don't push your body to its limits. Your asthma can bring your participation in such activities to a stop.

Wheezing: Wheezing is probably the most common among all exercise induced asthma symptoms. When you start making whistling signs every time you breathe, take a short break and observe your condition, take a puff from your inhaler as well. It would probably be safe to continue your workout once the medication takes effect and the wheezing stops.

Monitor yourself during exercising so as for you to avoid unwelcome asthma attacks. Trying to push your body to the limit will do you more harm than good. The last place you want to find yourself in after going to the gym is the hospital. - 30286

There's More Than One Type of Asthma

By Kim Archer

Asthma is a consequence of inflammation of the air passages that causes them to become narrowed. This swelling and blockage is created by exposure to triggers; this can be mild, moderate, severe, or even fatal in nature. The disease is categorized in many different ways and frequently is described by the trigger that worsens the condition. The medication and treatment that your health care provider will choose will depend, in large part, on the type with which you are diagnosed.

Child onset asthma is among the most commonly known asthma kinds which sometimes happens in a child who has an innate tendency and has also been sensitized to allergic substances that are typically found in their environment. When children having this predisposition are in contact with allergens such as mites, house dust, animal proteins, fungus or other toxic particles, they manufacture a kind of antibody. Added contact with such allergic substances can trigger an asthma attack.

Much less common than childhood onset asthma is adult onset asthma, in which asthma symptoms are suffered for the first time after age twenty. Women are affected more often than men, and although allergic response isn't the most critical factor, it can be a consequence of allergic substances. Possible allergens are animal products, wood dust, metal, and some types of plastic.

The exercise induced type of asthma manifests either throughout energetic exercise or immediately following. This response might take place in up to 80 percent of individuals with asthma. Asthma from working out may occur just once, and you might never experience symptoms again. An episode takes place 5-20 minutes after starting activities that necessitate breathing by way of the mouth. Cold weather is a primary trigger for asthma; therefore, attacks can be set off by wintertime activities such as hockey, running, and cross-country skiing.

Another type of asthma triggering coughing with or without wheezing is known as cough variant asthma. Sometimes cough variant asthma is confused with bronchitis, post nasal drip or sinus difficulties.

Workplace pollutants, allergic substances and fumes in the work environment can cause occupational asthma. Allergic substances that cause attacks are most often a component of industrial workplaces, although they could be anywhere.

Between the hours of midnight and 8AM is when nocturnal asthma attacks take place. Asthma sufferers who have allergen triggers within their homes may not realize it until they wake up at night with trouble breathing or wheezing. It is not yet established whether nighttime and daytime asthma are linked.

You'll need to get a diagnosis from your doctor with regard to which kind of asthma you have. You can then work together to decide which kinds of asthma remedies will be most effective for your condition. - 30286

An Ionic Air Purifier: Can It Do More Harm Than Good?

By Jordan Penner

A few years ago, "Consumer Reports" magazine undertook a detailed and objective evaluation of ionic air purifiers. They concluded that a typically healthy person would actually be better off without one, even though they did mention that such air purifiers could come in handy for those experiencing major medical issues like allergies, asthma and bronchitis.

If you have been considering purchasing an ionic air purifier just for the sake of it and you do not have any kind of acute breathing difficulties as noted earlier, then don't do it - you could end up doing yourself some real harm.

In the first place, there actually is not anything so tiny in the atmosphere doing you any harm that an ionic air purifier could filter out.

It's firmly recommended by "Consumer Reports" and several other reviews that healthy people shouldn't use one of these styles of purifiers. The single exception to this was for a non-smoker who had the misfortune of living with a person who smokes. The only real cure for this is to either encourage the smoker to renounce tobacco or move out of the house, but until the time that either of these takes place, an ionic air purifier will help reduce the horrible smell and discomfort caused by the person who smokes.

The use of an ionic air purifier should only be by those who will see health benefits from it and even then its use should be kept to a minimum. Making use of one just because you have one can jeopardize the earth and encourage the global warming problems, in addition to the damage it will do to your lungs and bronchial tract.

Ionic air purifiers work by producing ozone. Yes, you have heard of this before. It's the same kind of ozone that produced the holes in our planet's outer protective atmospheric layer and in large quantities it is deadly. When you have an ionic air purifier you're in contact with severely high emissions of ozone and it has been established that individuals have ozone in the lungs when using ionic air purifiers.

To sum up, there's much unconfirmed propaganda when it comes to air purifiers, whatever type they are. Instead of demanding technology and science to save us from the difficulties we come across, we really need to be concentrating on halting global warming and not having to rely on electronic devices to allow us to breathe clean air into our lungs. - 30286

Quitting Smoking: The Best Decision

By Jammy Hoob

Many people have probably told you to quit smoking. When deciding to give up nicotine, you should also be aware that there are some quit smoking side effects that you will have to deal with. Now, they are not as scary as you might first think, but you should be aware of them, in order to be prepared and deal with the them right way.

Why should you stop smoking? Apart from the health benefits, you will save money. Have you ever worked out exactly how much your cigarette or cigar habit is costing you? One suggested way to quit is to put the money you would normally spend into a jar and when it is full buy something that you have wanted for ages. Don't pay off credit cards or bills the first time, you can do that later.

There are many ways to quit smoking. There are stop smoking pills, patches and even laser treatments. When it comes down to it, you have to want it enough to do it yourself. Finances are another area that improves immediately when a person stop smoking. The cost of a pack of cigarettes these days is astounding. The fact that smokers continue to pay it is proof of the strength of the addiction.

If you've been a smoker for many years, then you need to regain your health immediately. The average smoker spends $30 a week on their habit. That is over $1,500 a year. That is money that could be spent on much more constructive things or money that could go towards bills and life expenses.

Don't give up if you are not successful the first time you quit. Keep trying again and again until you have become a non smoker. You have far too much to gain by not indulging in this habit. If it helps, avoid the social occasions you associate with having a smoke for a while. If you associate a cigarette with a drink, then temporarily give up alcohol as well. - 30286

What Are The Common Asthma Symptoms In Adults

By Esther Tan

Asthma symptoms in adults are not all that different from those experienced by children. There are minor differences, though, which are the severity of attacks and actions that are to be taken. Asthma symptoms in children are monitored closely as per instructions from doctors, guardians, and parents. Adults, on the other hand, tend to ignore the symptoms due to varying circumstances.

Early detection and prevention is important in any health issue. This applies to asthma as well. To achieve long term relief and greater control over your asthma, you have to determine the symptoms of your condition so as for you to be able to do immediate preventive actions. Here are some of the symptoms that you may or may not be aware of:

Shortness of breath: Medically known as dyspnea, it is the number one source of distress for asthmatics and the severity of the symptoms doesn't always reflect the level of impairment of lung functionality. With that said, it is possible to experience a mild shortness of breath but end up unable to move due to a sever asthma attack, and vice versa. If you experience shortness of breath, recognize that and keep your medication close as you may need it more than you think.

Coughing: Coughing is pretty generic. It can be due to flu, colds, or any other illness so it is easily mistaken for an impending exacerbation of their asthma. If you are experiencing dry and unproductive cough that worsens during colder days, do not ignore it as your body may already be telling you something.

Sleep apnea: Sleep apnea is a chronic condition which is characterized by pauses or shallow breathing. This condition can also come and go and is not a sure sign of an oncoming attack. The pauses or shallow breaths are caused by constriction in the bronchial tubes making it difficult for air to flow in and out freely. Tell your doctor immediately if you start to experience this symptom as there may be a deeper cause to it.

Chest tightness: Chest tightness and/or pain are surefire signs of an asthma attack. If you feel our chest tightening for no apparent reasons, take your medication as this may be a sign of a serious asthma attack.

When you encounter these symptoms, take action immediately so as to prevent the worsening of your asthma. Do not take a blind leap of faith by waiting to see if the symptoms really are of asthmatic nature. Doing so will stretch the road between you and your much-desired long term relief from asthma. - 30286
